Conservative leadership race can’t forget grassroots voters

Canadian politics is long past the brokered backroom leadership conventions of yesterday, or at least it should be.
With the advent of social media and variations on the one-member, one-vote style of selecting a leader, the regular grassroots member has grown increasingly accustomed to feeling their voice matters. As it should be. Canada is the best democracy in the world — everyone should matter.

Strategists and insiders will need to keep this in mind as they practise their craft in the next few months. It’ll be important they include as many voices as possible in this process. It’ll only help the party feel strong and united as they move on to fight Justin Trudeau and the Liberals in the next election.
