Peter MacKay has officially entered the Conservative leadership race.
MacKay, who was the last leader of the Progressive Conservative party before it merged into the modern Conservative party in 2003, was a senior cabinet minister in Stephen Harper’s government and is the highest-profile name to enter the race so far.
MacKay made his intentions known on Wednesday on social media, tweeting “I’m in. Stay tuned” and will formally launch his campaign in Nova Scotia sometime next week.
